100 best workplaces for women

The inaugural list of the 100 Best Workplaces for Women from our partners at Great Place to Work includes the wealth management firm TrueWealth at No.1, hospital system Texas Health Resources (No. 3), and Build-A-Bear Workshop (No. 10). Rankings were determined by employee surveys and the representation of women within the organizations.

This small Atlanta-based wealth management company only has 26 employees, who say it's a great workplace thanks to a host of perks that include 84 days of paid maternity leave, flexible scheduling, telecommuting options, and 26 days of paid time off, including holidays and vacation days. There's also a focus on fitness: all employees are given a choice of a FitBit or a free health coaching. Participation in the wellness program is rewarded with a day off. TrueWealth

The online resource for travel insurance has two office locations: St. Petersburg, Fla. and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Women account for half of its 27 employees. The company gives everyone a bonus each quarter, based on company profits. The faith-based hospital system employs more than 13,000 women, who account for 77% of the company's total workforce. Women hold 61% of executive positions and 74% of the health care company's manager roles. Almost half of the employees of this privately held commercial real estate company are women, who also hold half of its leadership positions. 99% of all employees — called "Graniteers" — say they are treated fairly regardless of position and that they're proud to tell others they work for the company. Women comprise 79% of the staff at this small digital marketing firm, which offers a flexible work option that allows employees to work from home or flex office spaces in major cities. The flex options help workers make time for personal obligations and be their most productive. Nearly 70% of this HR consulting firm's 115 employees are women, who oversee programs for its consulting clients, which include the Leadership Lattice that promotes nontraditional career paths, and Collaborate Coaching sessions to improve work relationships. In addition to unlimited vacation and sick days, employees are given flexible scheduling and telecommuting options. Employees at this small Springfield, Missouri-based health care practice that treats patients with kidney disease cite an incredibly supportive atmosphere. "This is an amazing crew who care about employees and patients," says one employee. 81% of staff are women, who also hold 50% of manager positions. <p class="p1">Not only do employees enjoy unlimited paid time off, but the company's Jacksonville Beach, Fla., offices are located directly on the beach, which means employees can go on a walk or eat their lunch while taking in the surf. The firm recruits and hires doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals for hospitals, schools, and nursing facilities. Led by CEO Sharon Price John, the DIY stuffed animal retailer is 87% staffed by women, who hold 74% of manager positions. Many cite the company's training, fair pay, and personally challenging work environment as reasons for calling it a great workplace. In the past year it held an International Day of Party Training for employees to share ideas for celebrations.
