Beth Galetti oversees one of the most complex people operations on earth: As SVP of people experience and technology at Amazon, she is responsible for supporting more than 1.5 million employees around the globe, now through the workforce upheaval caused by the rise of generative AI. The past year has put her at the center of the most sweeping workforce transformation ever at Amazon—or in society. She’s had to lead Amazon through the layoffs of more than 30,000 people and then figure out how to upskill the rest of the tech giant’s workforce. She revealed a $2.5 billion commitment to education and skills training called Future Ready 2030, which promised to prepare more than 50 million people—well beyond Amazon—for the future of work in the AI era. She spearheaded the development of Amazon’s internal AI HR assistant Aza, which handles millions of questions from employees each month. Her decisions and leadership at Amazon, the second-largest private employer in the U.S., will influence how other companies handle their own workforce transformations in the years to come.
