Best Multivitamin Overall: Ritual Essential for Men 18+

at Ritual

  • Our thoughts: This delayed-release capsule is designed to optimize heart and brain health, as well as muscle function
  • Key Ingredients: Vitamin A, vitamin D3, vitamin E, folate, vitamin B12, magnesium, zinc, boron, omega-3 DHA, vitamin K2
  • Who it’s for: Men looking for a vitamin designed for their specific needs, with added vitamin A, zinc, and boron
  • What makes it different: It’s specifically formulated to support the health of men ages 18 to 49

Pros

  • Holds several sustainability certifications, vegan, non-GMO
  • Third-party testing with transparency around results
  • Delayed release capsules

Cons

  • May contain less than clinical dosages of some ingredients
  • Pricier than some multivitamins
  • Some dislike the mint flavor

Our Thoughts on Ritual Essential for Men 18+

We chose the Ritual Essential for Men 18+ Multivitamin as the best multivitamin overall because it was specifically designed to support adults’ supplementation needs with just 10 key ingredients and no filler. Our testers appreciated this minimalist approach—and the fact that the multivitamin left off some ingredients that tend to be covered by a regular diet (Vitamin C and Calcium) and focused on more frequently deficient vitamins, such as Vitamin K2 and Omega-3 DHA.

Ritual Mens as best multivitamin

Our tester Pete tried the version of Ritual Essential intended for men over 50, which differs from our pick by having higher levels of magnesium, vitamin K2, and other ingredients to support bone health. Pete liked the look of the container and found it to be travel-friendly. His only critique of the packaging was that the white lettering on the label made it difficult to read.

Overall, he had a positive experience with the multivitamin. “This supplement is a capsule and the recommended serving size is two capsules per day,” he said. “The capsules have a strong mint smell due to the mint essence tab that Ritual places in the container. The pills are about 1-inch in length and 1 cm wide and they feature a delayed-release capsule design in which ‘beadlets’ (small vitamin pellets) are placed in oil inside the capsule. The purpose of this design is so that the capsule passes the stomach and dissolves in the gut.”

Ritual Mens as best multivitamin

That strong mint smell carried over to the flavor, which was another positive for Pete and earned a 5-out-of-5 score for taste. “They taste much better than the standard compressed multivitamin, which usually has a very earthy or metallic taste,” he said.

Pete didn’t have any negative side effects after consuming the multivitamins, and thinks the brand’s focused formulation on just 10 key ingredients is a plus. The vitamins and minerals that the supplement lacks are ones that are easily available from a moderately balanced diet. Those included, however, are present in clinically backed doses to support a positive effect on men’s brain, heart, and muscle functions.

Best Multivitamin With Iron: Swolverine Multivitamin

  • Our thoughts: Our tester appreciated the comprehensive formula at a decent price
  • Key Ingredients: Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc
  • Dose: 1 capsules
  • Who it’s for: Men looking for a one-capsule vitamin with a broad spectrum of nutrients
  • What makes it different: It has both iron and iodine, which aren’t always included in a standard multivitamin

Pros

  • Gluten-free
  • One capsule per serving
  • Budget-friendly

Cons

  • Mineral taste
  • Large pill size

Our Thoughts on Swolverine Multivitamin

Some multivitamins pack in nutrients that are easy to max out in even a semi-balanced diet, while leaving out others that are harder to come by. Swolverine’s comprehensive multivitamin takes the more-is-more approach and packs in a long list of standard vitamins as well as iron and iodine—two crucial nutrients that aren’t always available in your standard multivitamin.

Swolverine Multivitamin as best multivitamins

Our tester Pete tried this multivitamin and said he appreciated Swolverine’s broad range of ingredients available in clinically back doses. He had a great first impression of the product, and gave the compact, childproof container a 5-out-of-5 score in this category. His only complaint was with the font size. “The label itself looks nice; however, the text on the container is very small which can make it challenging to read unless you’re holding it up to your face,” he said.

Swolverine Multivitamin as best multivitamins

After clearing that small challenge, Pete gave the multivitamin additional 5s for ease of instructions and (lack of) side effects. He liked that you only need to take one capsule a day with food to get a broad spectrum of nutrients, but did note that the pill has a “minerally, bitter taste” that’s hard to immediately get down. Otherwise, his feedback was positive, and he found this supplement to be an enormous value at just 77 cents a daily serving.

“Overall, this is a comprehensive daily multivitamin that delivers a broad spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals,” Pete said. “It’s a solid option if you’re looking for a single pill multivitamin to cover your micronutrient gaps in your diet.”

  • Our thoughts: This is a great multivitamin with a focus on men’s health
  • Key Ingredients: Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2, Ashwagandha root extract, Alpha-lipoic acid, Lutein/Zeaxanthin
  • Dose: 8 capsules per serving
  • Who it’s for: Men looking for multivitamin support plus men’s health nutrients
  • What makes it different: Contains unique ingredients to support men’s health and mood

Pros

  • Made in a NSF-certified and FDA inspected facility
  • Has a 100% money back guarantee
  • Includes adaptogens, antioxidants, and nootropics

Cons

  • Each serving is 8 capsules
  • Not for folks who want to avoid taking many pills
  • More expensive than other options on our list

Our Thoughts on Legion Triumph Men’s Sport Multivitamin (20+ Vitamins & Minerals)

Legion Triumph is our pick for the best multivitamin for men thanks to its uniquely comprehensive formula, which goes beyond the basics by combining 20 essential vitamins and minerals with 10 additional ingredients targeted toward men’s health. These extras include  CoQ10, which may offer some cardiovascular support and pumpkin seed extract, which may offer some benefits for prostate health.

The large, black bottle and detailed labeling set expectations for a “robust and very well-dosed supplement,” says our tester, Pete. Pete scored first impression and ease of reading the instructions both a 5 out of 5. He rated swallowability a 1, writing: “The recommended serving size is 8 capsules per day which is a lot.” He commented on the impracticality of taking 8 daily and found the bottle too big for travel. There was “no taste,” earning it a taste rating of 3.

Legion Triumph as best multivitamin

Pete didn’t experience any side effects, rating it a 5 out of 5 in that category. Though overall, he said, “It’s fairly expensive, and the eight-capsule serving size is a lot to take on a daily basis.”
Legion Triumph is great for men seeking maximal nutrient coverage who don’t mind having to take multiple pills.

  • Our thoughts: This multivitamin offers a straightforward formula in pill form for convenient daily dosing
  • Key Ingredients: Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2, Vitamin C, Magnesium, B12
  • Dose: 4 capsules
  • Who it’s for: Health-conscious folks and athletes who value clean, transparent formulas
  • What makes it different: Offers high bioavailability plus unique antioxidants (lutein, zeaxanthin)

Pros

  • Vegan friendly
  • Third-party tested
  • Free shipping with a purchase of $99+

Cons

  • Serving size is 4 capsules daily
  • More expensive than other options on our list
  • Contains proprietary blends

Our Thoughts on Transparent Labs Multivitamin

Transparent Labs Multivitamin earned our title of best clean multivitamin because it delivers highly bioavailable nutrients from plant-based and whole-food sources. This multivitamin stands out for using clean, organic ingredients, and for containing extra antioxidants—including clinical doses of lutein and zeaxanthin—for long-term vision and cellular health. We also remain fans of the Transparent Labs brand for its commitment to third-party testing and transparent labeling.

Kate tested these multivitamins, rating them a 5 out of 5 for her first impression. She noted: “The packaging is pretty plain; it’s a classic white bottle with Transparent Labs branding and then clear, bold writing.” She did observe that the bottle is bigger than some of the other multivitamins she’s tested, so it’s not as easily transportable but it can likely still fit in a backpack or purse. The bottle is a simple twist-off, and Kate had no issues removing it or putting it back on.

Transparent Labs Multivitamin as best multivitamin

She found the instructions easy to read and follow, earning them a 5 out of 5 in this category. “The directions are clearly displayed on the back, and easy to read,” Kate said, “You take four capsules with your first meal of the day.” Easy enough! Kate rated the swallowability a 3 out of 5, as these aren’t the smallest pills. “Taking four at once was a lot, so I took them in two different attempts with two pills each.” She also mentioned that the pills are a creamy/milky yellow color, which isn’t the most appealing compared to some other multivitamin brands on this list.

Kate found Transparent Labs Multivitamin to have a strong scent. “There isn’t much of a taste, but the smell is a bit overwhelming. There isn’t a taste with taking the actual pills, and no aftertaste, which may be surprising because of the smell.” While she didn’t experience any side effects after testing this multivitamin, rating it a 5 out of 5 in this category, some folks may not like the smell.

at Perelel

  • Our thoughts: Our tester loves the single-serve packaging that makes these easy to travel with
  • Key Ingredients: Vitamins A, C, D, E, B12, folate, magnesium, zinc, Omega-3s, biotin, collagen
  • Who it’s for: Folks looking for a multivitamin in powder form with no added sugar or artificial ingredients
  • What makes it different: This trio is essentially three supplements in one: a multivitamin, Omega-3 fatty acids, and a “beauty blend” with biotin and collagen

Pros

  • Includes biotin and collagen for healthier skin and hair
  • Crafted by a team of OB/GYNs and nutritionists
  • Independently tested for purity and potency

Cons

  • Serving size is three pills a day
  • Pricier than some other options
  • Large serving size

Our Thoughts on Perelel Women’s Daily Vitamin Trio

Perelel Women’s Daily Vitamin Trio is our pick for the best multivitamin for women because it essentially ticks all your supplementation boxes in one. The “trio” refers to a multivitamin with a laundry list of essential vitamins and minerals, an Omega-3 fatty acid supplement formulated for heart and brain health, and finally, a “beauty blend” with collagen and biotin support for healthy skin, hair, and nails. These three tablets may feel like a lot to take daily, but they cover the bases to support your overall health, mood, and energy level.

Our tester Kate scored her first impression of the product as a 5 and said she appreciated how each set of pills comes individually wrapped and loaded so you can easily slide each day’s dose out of the bottom of the box. “It kind of reminds me of an upside down Pez dispenser!” she enthused.  “The soft pink is a really pretty color and is definitely branded towards women. I really like the overall vibe of this packaging with the font and coloring.”

Perelel as best multivitamin

Kate also awarded ease of instructions a 5-out-of-5 score but reported more difficulty with swallowability and taste, which she scored with a pair of 3s. The product is made up of two capsules and a softgel, and they took two swallows for Kate to get down. She described them as “earthy.” “Some people really do enjoy these because it tastes like what you are taking, which are earthy vitamins!” Kate said. “The taste doesn’t linger, but I really don’t like it.”

Kate experienced no digestive issues or side effects after taking the pills and noticed that online reviews don’t mention any, either. Most of all, she appreciated the complete formulation, which is designed to meet all your needs in one daily dose. “This would be good for someone who is looking to get all of their vitamins for the day in one packet,” Kate said. “It really makes you feel like you are getting all your nutrients seeing the three pills in the packet.”

  • Our thoughts: Our tester loves the mixed berry flavor of these gummies
  • Key Ingredients: Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Folic Acid
  • Dose: 2 gummies
  • Who it’s for: Folks shopping on a budget
  • What makes it different: It’s the cheapest multivitamin on our list

Pros

  • Includes probiotics
  • 90 servings per container
  • Vegetarian

Cons

  • Berry is the only flavor option
  • Has 4 grams of added sugar
  • Does not include calcium or magnesium

Our Thoughts on Nutricost Multivitamin

Nutricost Multivitamin gummies offer well-rounded nutrition in a tasty and affordable format. These gummies are far more affordable than other options on our list, costing only 26 cents per serving. But Nutricost doesn’t skimp on the formula, offering at least 70% of your recommended daily value of vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B6, folate, and more.

Pete gave his first impressions a 5, appreciating the “clear and easy-to-read” label, although he notes the jar is a bit bulky. That said, the instructions are straightforward, which is exactly what you want with a multivitamin. “As a dietary supplement, take two gummies daily,” which Pete found clear and rated 5 out of 5. He described the gummies as having a mixed berry flavor, “light brown in color and in the shape of a berry, about the size of a penny.” The gummies were “easy to chew and swallow,” earning another 5 for swallowability.

Nutricost Multivitamin as best multivitamin

The taste was true to the label—sweet, mixed berry, and not overpowering, with no sugar coating or aftertaste. Pete had no side effects and felt the product was “a well-rounded multivitamin supplement that’s affordable and tastes great.”

This is ideal for those seeking an affordable, tasty multivitamin in gummy form. However, gummy multivitamins may not be ideal for all, especially if you’re trying to cut back on added sugars. In that case, we recommend Transparent Labs Multivitamin.

  • Dose: One gummy daily
  • Who it’s for: Children ages 4 to 18 who need an extra boost to fill nutritional gaps
  • What makes it different: This multivitamin gummy contains no artificial sweeteners

Pros

  • USP-verified for quality
  • Naturally sweetened
  • Includes strawberry, lemon, and orange flavors

Cons

  • Contains gelatin, not vegetarian or vegan
  • No calcium or magnesium included
  • Sugar coating may be sticky

Our Thoughts on Nature Made Kids First Multi + Omega-3 Gummies

Nature Made Kids First Multi with Omega-3 stands out for its child-friendly presentation with cartoon characters and appealing flavors (strawberry, lemon, and orange). This formula was designed with kids in mind, making it safe for most children. That said, we recommend speaking with your child’s pediatrician before introducing a new supplement to their diet.

Pete rated his first impression of this Nature Made product a 5 out of 5. “The packaging works well for a supplement designed for kids,” he said. “There is a cartoon character on the front of the label and the listed flavors are kid-friendly. The bottle would be easy to travel with, and it opens and closes easily using the standard push down and turn to open system.”

Nature Made Gummy vitamins as best multivitamin.

Our tester found the instructions clear and direct, giving them a 5 out of 5. The gummies are “soft and easy to chew,” and Pete described the taste as “lemony and sweet, similar in flavor to a yellow Starburst,” with no aftertaste. Swallowability was also perfect at 5 out of 5. Gummy vitamins can be great for kids as they’re easier to consume than a pill. Pete experienced no negative side effects and liked the omega-3 content but pointed out it was a low dose. He also noted the absence of calcium or iron.

This would be a good pick for parents of picky eaters who want a basic, kid-approved multi, especially for children who don’t get enough fatty fish in their diet.

Prefer a liquid multivitamin?

If you’re not a fan of pills or gummies, you may prefer trying one of the best greens powders, all of which are full of vitamins and nutrients, too.

How We Tested and Selected the Best Multivitamins

We tested and evaluated multivitamins and scored them on a scale of 1-5 for factors such as first impressions, easy-to-follow directions, swallowability, side effects, and value. Our testers evaluate the products based on their own individual experiences and preferences. We then review their testing feedback and data to share our findings and recommendations with you.

Formula

We work with a certified nutrition coach during testing in order to find the most effective and safe multivitamin formulas. We looked for products that met the recommended daily value (RDV) for as many vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients as possible.

Serving Size

Serving sizes for multivitamins can vary from one capsule up to eight per serving. We gave preference to multivitamins with a serving size that involves less capsules where possible.

Taste

Where possible, we looked for multivitamin products that were pleasant to consume. Some capsules have a flavored essence, and gummies have flavors that tend to be enjoyable to take. We also paid attention to our testers’ feedback on any aftertaste, especially with multivitamins that include fish oil.

Third-Party Testing

We chose multivitamins that have been third-party tested. Third-party testing ensures independent verification of safety, purity, as well as nutrition label accuracy. This helps to reduce the risk of mislabeling or underdosing. Third-party testing also checks for harmful substances such as heavy metals, pesticides, and more for safety.

Transparent Labs Multivitamin as best multivitamin

For athletes, third-party testing is paramount to knowing that the supplement they’ve chosen does not contain any banned substances. They should look for products that are certified for sport. Independent testing and certifications help to build consumer trust. The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) does not regulate supplements, so it’s vital to have independent testing done to ensure safety, accuracy, and quality.

Value

When considering value, we place a higher value on brands that source their ingredients in America and have certifications, such as Informed Choice or USDA-certified organic.

How to Find the Best Multivitamin for You

Everyone has different multivitamin needs depending on your fitness goals, dietary needs, allergies, and any nutrition gaps you’d like to address.

Here’s what to consider when selecting the best multivitamin for you.

Your Body’s Needs

Before purchasing multivitamins, we recommend that you talk with your doctor or other healthcare professional. If possible and/or necessary, now may be a good time to get bloodwork done so you can find a multivitamin formula best suited to your needs. It’s still best to prioritize getting your recommended daily values of nutrients from whole foods, but a multivitamin may help fill gaps in your diet.

Form

Multivitamins come in a variety of forms—such as gummies, capsules, tablets, powders, and even liquids—and it’s important to choose the type that fits best with your lifestyle and preferences. Some people find gummies easier to take, while others prefer traditional capsules or tablets for their convenience and higher nutrient content. Powders and liquids can also be good options if swallowing pills is difficult. The key is to choose a multivitamin in a form you’ll take consistently, since daily use will provide you with the best results.

Nutricost Multivitamin as best multivitamin

Cost

Multivitamins are typically taken every day, and can be pricey, so you may want to consider your budget when selecting your multivitamin. Cleaner formulations, meaning those without artificial sweeteners or additives, may cost more because of their higher quality and ingredient sourcing.

Third-Party Testing

Third-party testing independently verifies the safety, purity, and label accuracy of multivitamins since the FDA doesn’t regulate supplements. This process helps protect you from mislabeling, contamination, and banned substances, building trust and ensuring you can use products with confidence. Independent testing is essential for confirming product quality and safeguarding your health. Third-party certifications are especially crucial if you’re in the market for a fat burner supplement or testosterone booster, for instance.

Benefits of Multivitamins

Taking a multivitamin daily can support your overall health by filling nutritional gaps and promoting key functions in your body.

  • Strong bones: Nutrients like vitamin D and calcium in multivitamins can help maintain bone density and may reduce the risk of osteoporosis
  • Immune health: Vitamins C, D, and zinc support the immune system’s ability to fight off infections
Onnit's multivitamin packets as best multivitamin
  • Cognitive health: B vitamins, particularly B6, B12, and folate, play a role in supporting memory and brain function as we age
  • Overall energy: Iron and B vitamins help convert food into energy, which may reduce fatigue and improve daily stamina.

How to Take Multivitamins

When taking a multivitamin, it’s important to follow the dosage instructions on the product label or the guidance provided by your doctor. Taking higher-than-recommended amounts of certain vitamins and minerals can lead to side effects or even health risks over time. Consistency is key, so choose a time of day that works best for you and make it part of your routine.

It also helps to know whether the vitamins in your supplement are water- or fat-soluble.

  • Water-soluble vitamins like vitamin C and the B-complex family, dissolve in water and are best absorbed on an empty stomach, though they need to be replenished daily since the body does not store them.
  • Fat-soluble vitamins, such as A, D, E, and K, are absorbed more effectively when taken with a meal that contains some healthy fat. Pairing your multivitamin with food can therefore improve its overall benefits.
Legion Triumph as best multivitamin

It’s also important to consider possible medication interactions. For example, vitamin K can interfere with the effectiveness of blood thinner medications such as warfarin, and high doses of other nutrients may also impact how certain prescriptions work. If you’re taking any medications or have a health condition, it’s best to talk with your doctor before starting or changing a multivitamin routine to ensure safety and effectiveness.

What to Avoid in Multivitamins

While multivitamins can be a great way to support your health, there are certain things you’ll want to avoid when choosing one:

  • Excessive nutrient levels: Very high doses of certain vitamins or minerals, like vitamin A or iron, can be harmful if you don’t actually need them. “The side effects of multivitamins are generally mild and include nausea, upset stomach, and constipation,” Jillian Robillard, MS, RD, LDN said. In some cases, there may be more serious side effects or toxicity with excessive intake, particularly with certain vitamins and minerals that are fat soluble and stored in the body’s fat and liver.
  • Unnecessary fillers or additives: Some products contain artificial colors, sweeteners, or preservatives that don’t add nutritional value.
  • Unverified quality: Supplements that aren’t third-party tested may have inaccurate labeling or contain contaminants, so it’s best to choose brands that prioritize transparency and safety.

Frequently asked questions

What is the top-rated multivitamin?

Onnit earned our top pick for delivering highly absorbable, wholistic vitamins and nutrients.

Do I need a multivitamin?

For most people, multivitamins aren’t necessary if you’re eating a balanced diet of whole foods including fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains. Multivitamins are a great way to fill gaps in your diet but they shouldn’t be the main source of your vitamin and nutrient intake. You may benefit from taking a multivitamin if you follow a restrictive diet, have food allergies, or may otherwise miss out on certain nutrients.

What brand has the best quality multivitamins?

Plenty of brands offer high-quality multivitamins. We focus on selecting multivitamins that have been through third-party testing, and we also review the multivitamin formulations to ensure you’re getting a clinically backed dose of a host of nutrients.
