  • Elon Musk just dissed President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” calling it “massive, outrageous, [and] pork-filled.” Just a week ago, Musk left his post as unofficial head of the Department of Government Efficiency where he had originally promised to save the federal government $2 trillion. The Trump-backed bill promises $5 trillion in cuts.

Elon Musk was once chummy with President Donald Trump—but now he’s tossing out insults at Trump’s “big beautiful bill,” which promises $5 trillion in tax cuts and increased border security.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk wrote on his platform X Tuesday afternoon. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Musk just recently ended his 130-day reign as the unofficial chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which the Tesla CEO said was responsible for $160 billion in savings for 2025-2026. He had previously said on the campaign trail DOGE would save the federal government $2 trillion, but later pared it down to $1 trillion. Musk later claimed DOGE had turned into a “scapegoat,” and that he got blamed for cuts for which he wasn’t responsible.

“We have nothing to do with that,” Musk said at a May 30 press conference. “It just became a bit ridiculous where anything, any cut, anywhere, was attributed to DOGE, including things that made no sense, and we would agree, made no sense.”

The House passed Trump’s spending bill, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” on May 22. It includes more than $5 trillion in tax cuts for both individuals and businesses, according to an estimate from the Joint Committee on Taxation, as well as shifting some of the cost of the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program, known as SNAP, to the states.

It also includes provisions for new work requirements for Medicaid, which Republicans insist will root out “waste, fraud and abuse.” The bill also includes funding for 1 million migrant deportations, thousands of new Border Patrol agents and customs officers, and the border wall. It also includes $25 billion for Trump’s “Golden Dome for America,” a long-envisioned missile defense shield, along with other defense-related spending items. Other provisions include taxes on university endowments, overhauling student loans, federal employee pension cuts, and increased drilling on public lands.

“We will take a massive step to balancing our Budget by enacting the largest mandatory Spending Cut, EVER, and Americans will get to keep more of their money with the largest Tax Cut, EVER, and no longer taxing Tips, Overtime, or Social Security for Seniors — Something 80 Million Voters supported in November,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

But Musk doesn’t see it that way.

“It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden America[n] citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt,” he wrote on X. “Congress is making America bankrupt.”

The White House didn’t immediately respond to Fortune’s request for comment.
