Between stubborn insurance inflation, climate-driven catastrophe risk, and a new AI arms race, it’s still a challenging time to run an insurer, but Progressive CEO Tricia Griffith has turned volatility into an edge. After a record 2024, Progressive delivered another standout year in 2025: Net premiums written rose 15% to $81.6 billion, and policies in force climbed 10% to 38.6 million. A Progressive lifer who joined the company as a claims representative in 1988, Griffith is known for a grounded operator’s approach to leadership, combining data-heavy underwriting discipline with a focus on employee engagement and customer experience. She is now pushing the company further into AI, including an AI Strategy Council focused on how, over the next three to five years, generative AI could reshape Progressive, the insurance industry, and how customers shop.
