Dr. Reshma Kewalramani has made Vertex Pharmaceuticals one of the world’s most formidable biotech companies: Vertex posted $12.0 billion in 2025 revenue, up 9% year over year. She is known for a disciplined strategy, focused on going deep into a small number of diseases. One of her newest bets is Journavx, the first new class of pain medicine approved in more than two decades and a direct challenge to opioid-based treatments. Since the launch of Journavx in March 2025, more than 1 million prescriptions have now been filled across hospital and retail settings. Vertex is also bringing new treatments for sickle cell disease and transfusion-dependent beta thalassemia, a severe blood disorder, to patients across the world. Kewalramani is a physician-scientist by training and one of the first women to lead a large public biotech company. She has steered Vertex through the approval of five medicines across multiple diseases, with five more potential launches planned by 2028.
