In September, Joi Harris became president and CEO of DTE, the Michigan energy company. Her appointment made her one of just two (soon to be three) Black women running Fortune 500 companies. A 30-year veteran of the company, she had been its COO before her promotion to the top job. She’s overseen both gas and electric and worked across field operations, system control, customer service and more. One of her biggest projects was the construction of DTE’s Blue Water Energy Center, a $1 billion natural gas power plant. Ranked No. 337 on the Fortune 500, DTE is a $12 billion-in-revenue business with 2.3 million electric customers. As CEO, Harris has committed to modernizing infrastructure and building lasting energy systems for future generations.
