Anna Borg has run Vattenfall, the Swedish state-owned energy giant, since 2020, climbing the ranks to become CFO before taking the top role. As CEO, she’s undertaken an ambitious clean energy transformation. In 2025, Vattenfall’s underlying operating profit rose year over year on the strength of improved price hedging and stronger nuclear operations, even as full-year profits declined to roughly $2 billion, owing in part to one-off asset sales the year prior. The more consequential story is the investment pipeline she is building: From 2026 through 2030, Vattenfall plans to deploy approximately $17.7 billion in capital, with much of it earmarked for new wind power projects, a resilient grid, EV infrastructure, hydropower initiatives, and nuclear power. She has simultaneously delivered one of the most credible emissions records in the industry: Vattenfall has cut emissions 56% since 2017 and has completely phased out coal from its operations.
