Kathryn McLay, an Australian who joined Walmart in 2015, became CEO of the company’s $122 billion international division in 2023, landing a role that has in the past been a launching pad into the Walmart CEO job. At Walmart International, McLay has been showing that her strong performance leading Walmart’s Sam’s Club division during the pandemic, including a significant refresh of Sam’s product assortment, was no fluke. Her first full year at the helm of Walmart International saw sales rise 9%, stripping out currency impact. E-commerce is way up and growing more profitable, and a newer advertising business is showing enormous promise.
