Appointed CEO of Anglo American Platinum in April, Viljoen now heads the world’s second-largest mining company and the largest refiner of platinum group metals. Already overseeing an integrated mining, processing, and marketing business with more than $6 billion in yearly revenue, Viljoen is confident that investments in modernization and technological advancement––such as the development of the world’s largest hydrogen-powered mine haul truck, which will be powered by hydrogen from renewable energy sources––will further the company’s growth going forward, as leading markets continue to prioritize firms who conduct business sustainably. Exemplary of its commitment to sustainability and societal impact, AAP was ranked first out of 55 peers in the precious metals sector by ratings firm Sustainalytics in its ESG index.
