A native Californian now based at Shell’s headquarters in the Netherlands, Uhl has served as the oil giant’s CFO since 2017. No. 3 on the Fortune Global 500, Shell is also the world’s second-largest oil company, after ExxonMobil, with more than $396 billion in revenue in 2018. Uhl got her start at Shell in the renewables business, and since then has publicly pushed for transparency in the natural resources industry, including on taxes and climate change. Meanwhile, the oil giant faces potentially-conflicting demands to lay out its shift to a low-carbon business, while also facing growing economic headwinds: slowing economic growth, sinking gas prices and shrinking refining margins.
