Upbit is South Korea's most dominant crypto exchange, commanding roughly 70% of local crypto trading volume as of late 2025. Song Chi-Hyung founded the company in 2017. In 2025, the exchange suffered a $36 million hack and was hit by a regulatory action that required it to pay $25 million and temporarily halt adding new customers. These issues have since been resolved, and the company generated $1 billion in revenue that year. In May 2026, three Samsung affiliates paid over $400 million to acquire a stake in Upbit's parent company, Dunamu.
