MoonPay

- CategoryCrypto Services
Launched in 2019 as a service for converting fiat to crypto, MoonPay has quietly become a major player in digital assets. In recent years, the company has accumulated key licenses, including a BitLicense to operate in New York. These permits have helped MoonPay integrate deeply into the financial system and forge partnerships with incumbents like Visa, Mastercard, and Apple Pay.
In 2026, MoonPay took steps to position the company as a leader in the emerging field of agentic commerce, including by putting out the Open Wallet Standard, which allows agents to securely carry out transactions on various blockchains. These initiatives are part of what MoonPay describes as a plan to shift toward AI-native infrastructure. In late 2021, the company raised $555 million from Tiger Global and Coatue at a $3.4 billion valuation. Headquartered in New York, MoonPay is led by cofounder and CEO Ivan Soto-Wright.
