Over the course of nearly two decades in Silicon Valley, Megan Quinn has played a key role at a long list of top companies, both as an executive and an investor. Her latest job is her biggest: chief operating officer at Niantic, the video-game maker known for the hugely popular Pokémon Go, Ingress, and Harry Potter. Quinn oversees the business side of the company, including legal, marketing, and sales. And amid the gaming industry’s strong growth, business is going well. Quinn got her start in tech at Google, where the self-professed map lover helped develop and market the iconic Google Maps, used by a billion people monthly. Then, as employee No. 20 at digital payments firm Square, she was the first head of product. Quinn later pivoted to being an investor, with stints at venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins and Spark Capital. She had a knack for spotting hot startups before others, having invested in crypto wallet Coinbase, which has since gone public; workplace messaging service Slack, later acquired by Salesforce; and online beauty retailer Glossier.
