HP focuses on consumer technology, in contrast to fellow Hewlett-Packard corporate scion Hewlett Packard Enterprise, No. 2 on this list, which focuses on enterprise tech. HP scored a major coup in April 2022 when Warren Buffett’s holding company, Berkshire Hathaway, disclosed a $4.2 billion, 11% stake in the company—a vote of confidence in its long-term strategy that caused its stock price to soar.

HP’s board scored well for gender equality, age dispersion, and board independence. Chip Bergh, the CEO of Levi Strauss, has been the board chair at HP since 2017. Board member Bruce Broussard is CEO of Humana and former chief of McKesson Specialty/US Oncology.

Other former CEOs on the board include Shumeet Banerji (Booz & Company) and Robert R. Bennett (Discovery and Liberty Media). Stephanie A. Burns is the former CEO of Dow Corning and also sits on the board of Corning, as well as food manufacturer Kellogg.

Stacy Brown-Philpot is the former CEO of TaskRabbit and was previously entrepreneur-in-residence at Google, in addition to holding multiple leadership roles at the tech giant. She’s also on the investment committee of the SB Opportunity Fund, a venture fund for Black, Latinx, and Native American founders.

Aída Álvarez, former head of the Small Business Administration under President Bill Clinton, is also on the board. Jami Miscik, who joined the board last year, is a former CIA deputy director of intelligence.
