Visa is a payment technology company headquartered in San Francisco and operating in the United States and internationally. It runs VisaNet, one of the world’s largest electronic payments processing networks, and offers credit, debit, and prepaid card products, as well as tap- and click-to-pay services. Launched by Bank of America in 1958 as BankAmericard, the Visa card was the first general-purpose credit card to offer revolving credit. The Visa brand was established in 1976, and Visa became a publicly traded, independent company in 2008 after a historic IPO.
