Mastercard, known to consumers everywhere by its red and orange logo, is a global payments technology company that provides transaction processing services and solutions for credit, debit, and prepaid cards. Mastercard operates in more than 200 countries and territories, serving consumers, businesses, and governments. In recent years, services have become the company’s fastest growing division, expanding its business well beyond the “card swipe” operations for which it is best known. Its newer offerings include data analytics, cybersecurity, blockchain, marketing, and business management tools. All are tailored for clients ranging from major financial institutions to small businesses and digital creators.

Change the World 2025
Micro and small businesses are key to the health of just about any economy, but they’re often the ones that struggle most to get credit, especially in rural and developing nations. Mastercard’s Strive program, launched in 2021, helps owners of those businesses get access to affordable credit and digital tools to manage their finances. In the U.S. Strive has facilitated $45 billion in loans and reached more than 1.6 million small businesses; outside U.S. borders, it has helped 19 million micro and small businesses since 2021, covering over 35 countries.
