Sales at Dell Technologies inched up 2% year over year to $94.2 billion, adding to the tech behemoth’s slow-and-steady rise since going public three years ago. Demand for the company’s personal computers, laptops, and desktop monitors swelled as COVID-19 forced people to work remotely. Revenue for the consumer electronics division rose 5% year over year to $48.4 billion, amounting to more than half of the company’s total business. In April, Dell said it would spin out VMware, the enterprise software firm that Dell acquired as part of its 2015 acquisition of EMC. The move is expected to generate up to $9.7 billion for Dell, key to paying down outstanding debt.
