Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump to concede defeat in the presidential election, a Trump aide confirmed early Wednesday morning, not long after her campaign chairman signaled she would not directly address supporters or concede until later.
John Podesta appeared at Clinton’s election night party in New York City at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday, in the midst of a long night that had Trump on the cusp of a stunning upset in the presidential election.
“Several states are too close to call so we’re not going to have anything more to say tonight,” Podesta said, urging supporters to go home.
“Your voices and your enthusiasm means so much to her and to Tim [Kaine] and to all of us,” he added. “We are so proud of you. we are so proud of her. She’s done an amazing job and she’ s not done yet. Let’s get those votes counted and lets bring this home.”
The Associated Press had yet not called the race for Trump at the time of Podesta’s remarks.
