Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson are tied for first place among likely Iowa Republican caucus-goers, according to a new poll conducted by Monmouth University.
Voters were asked who they would support if the presidential caucus were to be held today. Trump and Carson each received 23% of the votes, Trump rising 10 points from a July poll and Carson rising 15 points.
Former HP chief executive Carly Fiorina also received a significant boost to 10%, an escalation of 7 points since the last poll, while Scott Walker saw a steep decline of 15 points, bringing him to 7%.
The poll also measured voters’ commitment to their current opinion. 12% said they were completely decided on who they’ll vote for, and 42% said that they had a strong preference but could change their mind. 47% either had a slight preference or were completely undecided. Trump’s supporters tended to be more steadfast in their opinions than Carson’s.
