With rumors that Apple could be getting into the car manufacturing game still swirling around the automotive industry, at least one of the tech giant’s rivals is actually hoping those rumors become reality.
“I certainly hope Apple gets into the car business,” Elon Musk, CEO of electric car company Tesla(TSLA) told investors on this week’s earnings conference call, according to Jalopnik. “That’d be great,” he reportedly added.
The rumors of Apple’s (AAPL) new “iCar,” as some have called it, have received a variety of responses from the automotive world. An executive at Mercedes said he wasn’t losing sleep over the rumors — presumably, just as Apple probably wouldn’t lose sleep if Mercedes started making smartphones.
