AOptix, a Campbell, Calif.-based provider of identity verification and wireless communications solutions, has raised $42 million in Series E funding. True Ventures was joined by return backers Clearstone Venture Partners, DAG Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Northgate Capital and W Capital Partners. The company has now raised $123 million in total VC funding. www.aoptix.com

Novira Therapeutics Inc., a Radnor, Penn.-based antiviral drug discovery company focused on the treatment of chronic HBV and HIV infections, has raised $23 million in Series A funding. 5AM Ventures and Canaan Partners co-led the round, and were joined by WuXi PharmaTech and return backers BioAdvance, Mid-Atlantic Angel Group, Robin Hood Ventures and Delaware Crossing Investment Group. www.noviratherapeutics.com

SumUp, a Berlin-based mobile payments startup, has raised around $20 million in Series A funding. Backers include B-to-V Partners, Shortcut Ventures and Tengelmann Ventures. www.sumup.com
Whale Imaging, a Chinese medical imaging company with facilities in Boston, has raised $8 million in VC funding from OrbiMed Asia Partners and Chang’an Capital. www.whaleimaging.com

Bubble Motion Inc., a Mountain View, Calif.-based provider of mobile voice messaging solutions, has raised $5 million in VC funding from JAFCO Asia. It previously raised more than $10 million from SingTel Innov8, Infocomm Investments, Comcast Interactive, Palomar Ventures and Sequoia Capital. www.bubblemotion.com

Ginger Software Inc., a Lexington, Mass.-based maker of automatic spelling and grammar checking software, has raised $5 million in VC funding from Horizons Ventures and Harbor Pacific Capital. www.gingersoftware.com

BookMyShow, an India-based online ticketing company for entertainment events, has raised around $1.8 million in VC funding from Accel Partners. Some of the investment will be used to buy shares from earlier backers. www.accel.com
