Outbrain, a New York-based content discovery platform, has raised $35 million in Series D funding. Index Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Carmel Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners. www.outbrain.com

IntegenX Inc., a Pleasanton, Calif.-based developer of human DNA identification technology and DNA sequencing library preparation systems, has raised $40 million in Series C funding. Essex Woodlands led the round, and was joined by In-Q-Tel and return backers Domain Associates, QuestMark Partners, Greenspring Associates, Cross Creek Capital, RONAholdings and Samsung Ventures. www.integenx.com

TaskRabbit, a San Francisco-based service network for communities, has raised $17.8 million in Series B funding. LightSpeed Venture Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers Allen & Co. and The Torante Co. www.taskrabbit.com

Xeround, a Mountain View, Calif.-based provider of database virtualization solutions, has raised $9.3 million in Series C funding. Backers include Benchmark Capital, Giza Venture Capital, Ignition Partners and Trilogy Partnership. www.xeround.com

Trupanion, a Vancouver-based pet insurance company, has raised US$9 million in new VC funding. Highland Consumer Fund led the round, and was joined by return backer Maveron LLC. www.trupanion.com

xAd, a San Francisco-based provider of ad-serving technology for mobile search and display, has raised $9 million in new private financing. Emergence Capital Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers SoftBank Capital and Palisades Ventures. Silicon Valley Bank also provided venture debt as part of the round. www.xad.com

PowerCloud Systems, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based provider of networking-as-a-service software, has raised $6 million in Series B funding. Qualcomm Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Walden Venture Capital, Javelin Venture Partners and PARC. www.powercloudsystems.com

Party Earth, a Los Angeles-based provider of local event and social experience listings, has raised $4 million in new VC funding. No investor details were disclosed. www.partyearth.com

Life360, a San Francisco–based provider of provider of mobile family safety applications, has raised $3.5 million in Series A funding. Backers include included Fontinalis Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, 500 Startups, Kapor Capital, Venture51, Bullpen Capital, Social Leverage and EchoVC Partners. www.life360.com

Ecwid, a Russian provider of ecommerce and social networking solutions, has raised $1.5 million in VC funding from Runa Capital. It is the 10-year-old company’s first institutional round of funding. www.ecwid.com
