CircuLite, a Saddle Brook, N.J.-based maker of implantable blood pumps for long-term use in heart failure patients, has raised $30 million in Series D funding. MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings and return backer Forbion Capital Partners co-led the round, and were joined by Crédit Agricole Private Equity, Saints Capital, Foundation Medical Partners and SB Life Science Ventures. The company previously raised over $72 million. www.circulite.com

ArGen-X, a developer of human monoclonal antibodies, has raised €27.5 million in Series B funding. OrbiMed Advisors and Seventure Partners co-led the round, and were joined by return backers Forbion Capital Partners, Credit Agricole Private Equity, LSP, BioGeneration Ventures, Erasmus Biomedical Fund, Thuja Capital and VIB. ArGen-X has offices in Belgium and The Netherlands. www.argen-x.com

Academia.edu a San Francisco-based social platform for academics to share research papers, has raised $6.7 million in VC funding led by existing backer Spark Capital. www.academia.edu

MedLumens, a Spain-based medical imaging diagnostics startup focused on optical coherence tomography, has raised $4.7 million in Series A funding. Ysios Capital Partners and La Caixa co-led the round. www.medlumics.com

Awe.sm, a San Francisco-based platform that helps companies harness and analyze social data, has raised $4 million in new VC funding co-led by Foundry Group and GRP Partners. www.awe.sm

NewsCred, a developer of a single personalized platform for news, has raised $4 million in Series A funding. FirstMark Capital led the round, and was joined by Lerer Ventures, AOL Ventures and Advancit Capital. www.newscred.com

Retroficiency, a Boston-based provider of on-demand building efficiency intelligence solutions, has raised $3.32 million in VC funding led by Point Judith Capital. www.retroficiency.com

Objective Logistics, a Cambridge, Mass.-based maker of restaurant analytics software, has raised $1.5 million in new VC funding. Atlas Venture and Google Ventures co-led the round, and were joined by NextView Ventures, Canary Ventures and individual angels. www.objectivelogistics.com

SocioCast, a New York-based developer of big data analysis and human behavior prediction tools, has raised $1.5 million in new VC funding. Detroit Venture Partners led the round, and was joined by individual angels. www.sociocast.com

Freshdesk, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based social customer support SaaS startup, has raised $1 million in VC funding from Accel Partners. www.freshdesk.com

Zentyal, a Spain–based developer of a Linux small business server, has raised over $1 million in Series A funding from Open Ocean Capital. www.zentyal.com

Kekanto, an online local “social guide” in Brazil, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series A funding co-led by Accel Partners with Kaszek Ventures. www.br.kekanto.com
