The documentary that premiers Thursday night covers some well-plowed ground
There could be a few surprises in the hour-long biography of Steve Jobs that will kick off this year’s “CNBC Titans” series. But judging from the previews and Web-extra videos posted on the show’s site, it’s a long shot.
For people who have followed the career of Apple’s (AAPL) co-founder and CEO, the photography and film clips will have a familiar feel — especially since Jobs has for several years been buying up the rights to all the photos of himself he can get his hands on.
Equally familiar are the talking heads. CNBC seems to have drawn from the same shrinking pool of book authors and former colleagues willing to talk about Jobs without his permission. John Sculley is there, as are Steve Wozniak, Guy Kawasaki, Leander Kahney and Alan Deutschman. Missing — at least in the clips — is Michael Moritz, the former Time Magazine correspondent turned Sequoia venture capitalist who provided the intellectual glue that held Bloomberg TV’s 2010 Jobs documentary together. That one — available on the Web here — was surprisingly good.
