CFO Thomas Seifert was named interim CEO while AMD searches for Meyer’s long-term replacement. (Wall Street Journal)
- Hot on the heels of the Verizon iPhone announcement yesterday comes news that the number one mobile carrier plans to sell a CMDA version of the iPad that runs directly off the network — currently, Verizon sells WiFi editions bundled with MiFis — though it declined to mention when that would happen. - MySpace laid off 47% of its staff, or 500 employees, across all of its divisions yesterday. “Today’s tough but necessary changes were taken in order to provide the company with a clear path for sustained growth and profitability,” said MySpace CEO in a statement. “These changes were purely driven by issues related to our legacy business, and in no way reflect the performance of the new product. The new organizational structure will enable us to move more nimbly, develop products more quickly, and attain more flexibility on the financial side.” (MySpace)
- Square CEO and Twitter creator Jack Dorsey appeared on Charlie Rose and discussed everything from how he founded Twitter, which now has nearly 200 million registered users, to his thoughts on the “most powerful” sorts of technologies like the iPad. “When you’re using the iPad, the iPad disappears, it goes away,” he told Rose. “You’re reading a book. You’re viewing a website, you’re touching a web site. That’s amazing, and that’s what SMS is for me. The technology goes away and with Twitter, the technology goes away. The same is true with Square. We want the technology to fade away so that you can focus on enjoying the cappuccino that you just purchased.” (TechCrunch)
- Formspring raised $11.5 million during a round of funding led by Redpoint partners, bringing its total investments to $14 million. The Q&A-based social media site says it now has 20 million registered users and 10 million daily answers to questions from its community. (AllThingsD)
- Rumors abound that the AT&T iPhone could soon follow in the footsteps of the Verizon iPhone by introducing a “Personal Hotspot”-like feature offering a wireless Internet connection for other devices. (9 to 5 Mac)
