Nine countries will get Apple’s tablet computer on May 28. Nine more will follow in July.
The iPad is finally headed overseas.
Having postponed the international launch of the iPad while U.S. supplies caught up with demand, Apple (AAPL) announced Friday that it will begin selling the device in nine countries on May 28, with another nine to follow in July.
Pre-orders for the first group begin on May 10 at prices that are being posted locally online.
The nine countries that get the iPad on May 28:
Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK
The countries scheduled to get the iPad in July:
Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore
Because of local taxes, iPad prices that range in the U.S. from $499 to $829 will be considerably higher overseas. For example, in the U.K., the same configurations will range from $630 to $1,027 (including VAT) at the current Pound Sterling exchange rate. See the U.K. price grid below the fold:
