A growing Salt Lake City suburb, Sandy sits at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and is just a 30-minute drive away from the capital’s downtown. It’s a prime location for lovers of the outdoors, with easy access to the mountains for hiking, climbing, and skiing.

Hikers will love the Bell Canyon Preservation Trailhead’s access to the canyon’s reservoir, while golfers can spend their time at River Oaks Golf. Come winter, residents have several ski resorts in the area to choose from, from Alta to Snowbird.

The city also provides robust recreational programs and activities. It hosts several 5K runs throughout the year and is home to over 32 parks in which residents may skate, splash around, and play pickleball. Alta Canyon Sports Center is the go-to for fitness classes and the like, while the Sandy Senior Center offers a community for the elderly and their caregivers. There are 23 above-average nursing homes within 50 miles, per Caring.com.

Sandy employs around 50,000 people, largely in health care and social assistance, the retail trade, and professional, scientific, and technical services.

It’s dedicated to becoming the world’s first mountain city, and has been building out its urban core with more high-rise buildings and an 850-seat theater.
