More than 687,000 people call Oklahoma City, or OKC, their hometown, and for good reasons. “The modern frontier,” as it’s called because of its Native American and Western roots, is brimming with contemporary nightlife, cuisine, and art.

OKC is known for its loyal and energetic fans of the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA team, which plays at Paycom Center arena downtown. Before or after a game, explore the Bricktown entertainment district’s lively streets, filled with restaurants, bars, and shops, or take a water taxi ride along the Bricktown Canal.

There’s something for everyone of all ages in Scissortail Park, the city’s 70-acre public space that opened in 2019. It offers playgrounds, nature trails, a picnic grove, a roller rink, a dog park, and a performance stage. It’s also the site of the Oklahoma City Pride Alliance’s annual Pridefest, as well as the finish for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and after-party.

It might be best known for its basketball team, but Oklahoma City has a vibrant art scene, and two major festivals—the Paseo Arts Festival and the Festival of the Arts—bring together a variety of local artists, musicians, and restauranteurs for celebrations that have become a rite of spring. And with its relatively low median home cost compared to the national average, OKC may be attractive to those looking for an economical place to put down roots.—AS
