Tan Su Shan made history in 2025 as the first woman to lead DBS, Southeast Asia’s largest bank by assets. She inherited a high bar set by her predecessor, Piyush Gupta, who led the bank for 15 years. So far, things are going well: DBS posted a record profit of 10.7 billion Singapore dollars ($8.3 billion) last year, despite a stronger Singapore dollar and a difficult rate environment. The bank’s market capitalization crossed $100 billion for the first time last year; it’s now among the world’s top 25 banks by market value. Before taking the CEO role, Tan oversaw DBS’s consumer, wealth, and institutional divisions, which together contributed roughly 90% of the bank’s revenue.
