Meng Wanzhou leads Huawei as CFO, deputy chairwoman, and one of three rotating chairpeople as the company embraces its role as China’s national champion in tech self-sufficiency. The company posted 881 billion yuan ($130 billion) in revenue last year, the second-highest figure on record, thanks to a rebounding smartphone business and an increasingly important venture in AI, cloud computing, and semiconductors. Net income rose by 8.7%, even as the company pours over a fifth of its revenue into ventures like its Ascend chips, which allow China to stay competitive in AI despite U.S. export controls. Meng, daughter of company founder Ren Zhengfei, completed her most recent six-month tenure as rotating chairperson in March.
