Over the past year, Lisa Su has evolved from a respected tech leader to one of the key forces shaping the public and political architecture of AI. And with good reason. 2025 was a record year for the chipmaker, with revenue up 34% to $34.6 billion. Significant tactical wins included the company's data center business reaching revenue of $16.6 billion (a 32% jump year-on-year), and the signature of a sweeping agreement with OpenAI that saw AMD become one of the startup's key chip suppliers. The deal could generate tens of billions of dollars in revenue, loosening Nvidia's grip on the market in the process. At the same time, Su, who is in her 12th year running the company, has been tested by the limits of operating in a geopolitically sensitive industry: U.S. export restrictions to China impacted AMD - although not as severely as it had originally feared - underscoring how closely its growth is now tied to Washington’s national-security agenda. Despite this, Su's influence continues to grow beyond the company she runs. She is a visible player in Washington and was recently appointed to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, giving AMD—and Su herself—a powerful voice in policy conversations about the future of US AI dominance.
