Amy Hood became Microsoft’s first female CFO in 2013 and is now one of the most influential finance chiefs in tech. During her tenure, Microsoft’s annual revenue has more than tripled, reaching $281.7 billion in fiscal 2025. Hood has helped shape the company’s defining AI bets, from its OpenAI partnership to the enormous infrastructure build-out needed to support Azure, Copilot, and AI customers. In late 2024 and early 2025, Microsoft reassessed the pace of its AI infrastructure build-out, briefly delaying a selection of data center projects. The move rattled some investors. Today, Hood continues to balance spending with financial discipline, becoming one of the company’s most powerful internal voices in the process.
