Nearly a decade ago, Vicki Hollub became the first woman to lead a major American oil company, and she’s still pioneering today with Occidental Petroleum as president and CEO. Later in 2025, Oxy will become an energy forerunner in direct air capture (DAC), becoming the first energy producer to put a DAC directly in the oilfield. The Stratos facility is designed to suck 500,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year from the sky, making it the biggest such project in the world. Oxy also closed last year on the $12 billion acquisition of CrownRock, further enhancing the company’s already massive oil and gas footprint in the booming Permian Basin. Oxy’s revenues of $26.9 billion in 2024 fell 7% from the year prior.
