Sinead Gorman stepped into the role of CFO at Shell, Europe’s largest energy company, in 2022. Since joining Shell in 1999, Gorman also served in other key finance leadership positions, including executive vice president of finance for upstream. With Gorman as CFO, Shell continues to grow: In 2024, cash flow from operations was $54.7 billion, the second highest in Shell’s history. Adjusted earnings were $23.7 billion, and revenue and other income amounted to $289 billion. Gorman remains a pivotal force in arguing Shell’s investment case to investors amid the energy transition. Like other energy supermajors, however, Shell is doubling down on its oil and gas roots, recently buying the liquefied natural gas business Pavilion Energy, increasing its stake in its Ursa platform in the Gulf of Mexico, bringing its Whale project online in the gulf south of Houston, and restoring production to the Penguins field in the North Sea off the coast of the U.K.
