Europe’s largest private equity firm—and the largest one, globally, run by a woman—continued its growth streak this year. Ardian ended August 2021 with $114 billion in assets under management, a 14% increase from a year earlier, and 1,200 investors, a 20% increase in the same period. Senequier, who founded Axa’s private equity arm in 1996 and spun it out as Ardian in 2013, now oversees 750 employees globally, who collectively own a majority of the firm. Her French firm has pledged to reduce the emissions of its portfolio companies by 20% by 2030 and is launching a joint-venture investment platform devoted to green energy, with a target first fund of 1.5 billion euros.
