In charge of GE’s largest market outside the US, Duan, 46, oversees over $7 billion in revenue, 23,000 employees, and businesses spanning healthcare, power, aviation, transportation, renewables, and GE digital. China’s cooling economy and the government’s massive anti-corruption drive hit GE’s sales last year, but Duan, promoted to the job in 2014, has her eye on the long term. She has made digital revenue a key priority, setting up a technology park in Beijing along with a digital foundry in Shanghai to fast-track GE’s industrial internet initiative. The GE lifer has struck key partnerships with the likes of Huawei and China Telecom while also positioning her business as a strategic partner to Chinese firms hoping to go global. Her goal: $10 billion in revenue by 2020.
