As the Royal Mail’s letter volume continues to decline—it contributed to a 30% drop in profits in U.S. dollars last year—Greene is focused on growing the company’s parcel business. In June, she beefed up its European side of that business, which accounted for 17% of the company’s total revenue last year—with the $80 million purchase of Spain’s second biggest express parcels network, ASM Transporte Urgente. Greene is also trying to tap other revenue streams by investing in digital businesses such as Intersoft, which provides delivery management software for international shipments.
