It’s been a rocky year for Berlusconi, the eldest daughter of Italy’s ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. She is struggling to consolidate the family’s media and entertainment empire while facing increased competition from the industry’s digital disruptors. A deal she struck with French media conglomerate Vivendi to buy out one of her pay TV units earlier this year went sour when Vivendi pulled out in July. Berlusconi accused the French company of “cannibalistic capitalism” and lost little time suing for $645 million in damages. Now she is concentrating on reducing debt at the $5 billion-in-revenue group, starting with the announced sale of AC Milan, the burdensome football club her father bought in 1986, to Chinese investors for $825 million.
