Li Dang—granddaughter of famed Qing dynasty politician Li Hongzhang—joined China General Technology in 2000, when the company was just two years old. She is now in her second decade as the President of the $28 billion state-owned trading conglomerate, which runs businesses in plant construction, corporate real estate management, pharmaceutical production, and engineering consulting. A member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Li is also an advocate for the environment. In March 2015, she spoke out about the need to reduce manufacturing waste in the country’s aluminum, cement, glass, steel, and shipping industries, and more recently called for an increase in funding for green companies.
