Before Richards took over as the first female CEO of M&G in June, she served as global chief investment officer and head of EMEA region at Aberdeen Asset Management. During her 13 years there, its market cap rose from about $167 million to $3.2 billion, prompting comparisons between her departure and Bill Gross leaving Pimco. Her new job will be a turnaround task: M&G, one of the U.K.’s largest investment firms and owned by Prudential plc, saw its assets under management drop 12% (7% in local currency) to $362.7 billion in 2015. Things didn’t get any easier with the Brexit vote in Richards’ first month on the job. M&G now plans to build a fund business in Dublin in case its London base turns off investors.
