Miranda Qu cofounded Xiaohongshu in 2013 as a modest PDF shopping guide for Chinese consumers. Now, it's one of the world's most influential social media platforms with more than 400 million users, predominantly young women. Its users share photos and advice that drive tourists to sightseeing hotspots and photo-worthy restaurants worldwide—and the platform broke into global consciousness in early 2025, when a flood of "TikTok refugees," seeking an alternative during the brief U.S. TikTok ban, went to Xiaohongshu instead. That momentum has made its Hong Kong IPO one of the most hotly anticipated among China's tech sector. Reports say Xiaohongshu is projected to earn as much as $3 billion in profits this year.
