When Steve Jobs passed away in 2011, longtime Apple veteran Tim Cook was the steady hand the iPhone giant needed. As CEO, he guided the company as it built out an expanding product line, including the Apple Watch, a streaming service, and the Apple Vision Pro. And in 2023 he presided over the tech titan’s rise to become the first company worth $3 trillion. Now, Cook is leading a company at a crossroads. While Big Tech competitors like Google, Microsoft, and Meta have invested billions into AI, Apple appears to be flat-footed. Its June developer conference underwhelmed, and Meta poached its top AI executive in July. Still, don’t count Cook out. After more than a decade at the helm, he’s helped Apple’s stock grow more than 1,500%.
