For more than three decades, Jonathan “Jon” Gray has helped grow Blackstone into the world’s largest alternative investment firm, where he is now widely seen as heir apparent to cofounder Stephen Schwarzman. In 2018, Gray became president and COO of Blackstone, which now manages over $1.17 trillion in assets. He joined the private equity firm in 1992 as a private equity and M&A analyst after graduating from college. Gray later became global head of Blackstone Real Estate, where he oversaw the firm’s investment in Hilton, generating $14 billion in profit for Blackstone. As president and COO, Gray has emphasized a thematic investment approach focused on long-term trends—such as digital infrastructure, housing, and private credit.
