Andrew Witty became CEO of UnitedHealth Group in 2021, but this isn’t his first medical executive gig—he also served as CEO of leading pharmaceutical manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline from 2008 to 2017. Revenue has steadily climbed for UnitedHealth Group, which brought in $372 billion for fiscal year 2023, making it the biggest health care company in the world by revenue. The company has been in the spotlight this year after suffering a major cyberattack, and Witty testified before Congress that data from “maybe” one-third of Americans was stolen. In 2012, Witty was knighted in the U.K., and in 2017, he was named an honorary Singaporean citizen for his work improving that country’s growth and development.
