Coinbase

When Coinbase cofounder and CEO Brian Armstrong opened his startup's first office in San Francisco in 2012, few people had heard of Bitcoin and almost no one would have predicted that crypto would evolve into a global industry embraced by the biggest banks and stock exchanges. Today, Coinbase is a crypto titan valued at $40 billion, Armstrong has become a member of Silicon Valley's elite, and the crypto market is worth more than $2 trillion.
Once little more than a platform to buy and sell Bitcoin, Coinbase is now a diversified financial company with a suite of services ranging from staking to lending and, most recently, stocks. Even as it has grown into a corporate giant, Coinbase has remained committed to the decentralized ethos of crypto, as reflected in homegrown successes like the Base blockchain and the fast-emerging x402 protocol. Meanwhile, the company has guarded against future disruption with an aggressive M&A strategy and with Coinbase Ventures, its VC arm that has a stake in many of the most promising, up-and-coming crypto firms.
