Crypto exchange Bitpanda became Austria's first-ever unicorn in 2021, reaching a $1.2 billion valuation. In 2026, it announced plans to go public on Frankfurt's stock exchange at a valuation of around five times that amount. The platform was founded in 2014 by Paul Klanschek, Christian Trummer, and Eric Demuth. Prominent investors include Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures. Bitpanda also lets users trade stocks and ETFs.
