A titan among mainstream venture investors, Andreessen Horowitz is also a force to be reckoned with in crypto. Founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, the firm made its name backing a slew of successful startups like Facebook and Airbnb. The venture capitalist was also an early investor in the crypto exchange Coinbase.

In 2018, at the tail end of a crypto boom, the firm launched its first dedicated crypto fund of $350 million and soon rebranded its digital assets arm to a16z crypto. Led by managing partner Chris Dixon, the blockchain investor has grown to be a goliath, raising four subsequent funds to bring the amount of capital it's accrued to $9.8 billion. Some of the investor's most successful bets include the decentralized exchange Uniswap, the prediction market Kalshi, and the crypto custodian Anchorage Digital.
