Founded in 2017 by Diogo Mónica and Nathan McCauley as a crypto custodian, Anchorage Digital today offers a range of other services, including stablecoin issuance, institutional staking, and settlement. The company is also known for its savvy in Washington, D.C., and was early among its peers to obtain a national trust bank charter.

Following the passage of landmark stablecoin legislation in 2025, the leading player in the sector, Tether, tapped Anchorage Digital to issue a stablecoin for the U.S. market. Anchorage Digital enjoys close ties to the current White House, with McCauley sitting on President Trump's crypto advisory council. Anchorage Digital also provides Bitcoin custody services for Cantor Fitzgerald, whose former Chairman and CEO, Howard Lutnick, now serves as President Trump's Commerce Secretary.
