Originally a summer resort in the 1900s, the city of Maryland Heights, Mo., is home to 2,000-plus-acre Creve Coeur Park, where visitors can enjoy activities like kayaking, sailing, hiking, or picnicking. To promote urban agriculture and renewable energy, the Greenhouse, Garden, and Sustainability Center Project, which launched in 2021, is dedicated to adding greenhouses, sustainability education programs, and a community garden to the city.    Families can enjoy the Centene Community Ice Center, where the AAA Blues and Lady Cyclones play, and the NHL St. Louis Blues practice. If hockey isn’t your thing, the outdoor rink converts into the St. Louis Music Park each summer, hosting over 30 concerts every year.    The Parks and Recreation Department promotes and celebrates the city’s cultural diversity through activities and presentations at Worldfest and the Celebrate series. The department also hosts life-skills programs like swimming lessons and safe-bicycling sessions.    In 2017, the Community Center opened its doors to the public. The 92,000-square-foot facility houses a fitness center, gymnasium, indoor aquatic center, play center, and senior lounge. Community members ages 55 and up can attend events like monthly luncheons with bingo, and Senior Strong Week, which promotes wellness with lectures and activities. —KK
